Situated in the 'Dordogne' area of France is the hill-top chateau town of DURAS amongst rolling green hills dotted with vineyards producing ‘renowned’ world-class wines. There are fields of bright yellow sunflowers (‘tournesols’), whose faces turn during the day to follow the sun. There are quaint little villages bathed in the sunshine with farmer’s traditional markets selling locally grown produce; hand-made cheeses, morning dew-fresh vegetables, saucissons, and cured hams. You will find sparkling streams cascading into the three rivers;  the Lot, Garonne and the Dordogne which flow peacefully in the lush fertile valleys of the region.

There are fairytale chateaux with turrets (see photo - this is Duras Chateau just 200 yards from the cottage), and villages with half-timbered houses, dovecotes, ancient churches, scruffy farmyards and medieval walled towns - a gastronomic region bursting with history just waiting to be explored.

In rural eastern Crete surrounded by majestic mountains, is a village in the middle of a large natural verdant 'bowl' with olive groves, and vineyards.

Here the Cretan locals tend their ancient gardens where the only sound is the tinkle of bells from the goat herds...and possibly the bray of a local donkey. . the Village is called Pervolakia and is quaint and relatively untouched by the modern world. There is a bar (run by  a retired Greek Naval Officer- Manoli) and a small restaurant.

The large newly converted villa for rental is on the edge of the village. The old town of Makrialagos with beaches, shops, restaurants and bars is about 8 miles away.
